Co−founder and partner of A Piece of Pie, Joan is responsible for Consumer Insight, Design and Ethnography Research.
Along with his involvement in new client development, Joan brings his expertise as a trained designer and anthropologist. His focus is defining ethnographic research methodologies and steering project teams to uncover latent needs of consumers, which he then helps translate into high-return business solutions.
Driven by the need to take a comprehensive approach to innovation, Joan has built extensive experience in combining methodologies from business, design, and applied anthropology.
He worked in close collaboration with E-Lab (Chicago), a company that in the 90s pioneered the use of anthropology in consumer research and innovation. Joan advises various government institutions including the Spanish Senate and the Ministry of Science and Technology to foster policies of innovation in Spanish industry.
Previously, as Director of the Elisava Design School in Barcelona, Joan created research and post−graduate programmes that involved multidisciplinary teams working in close collaboration with companies and a worldwide network of renowned universities.
Joan has a Ph.D. Social Anthropology from the University of Barcelona (Spain), a Masters degree in Design from the Domus Academy in Milan (Italy), a Bachelor of Arts in Design from the University of Southampton (UK) and a PHD in Social Communication from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra (Spain).
